Caring and progress - keys to continuous prosperity

Continuous development is of vital importance for any company today. If expertise and creativity are no longer advanced, a company quickly reaches the end of its life span.

In Europe, this is unfortunately often the reality. The average age of European companies is only 13 years. At Elematic, we have nearly 50 years in the business behind us, and we believe in unceasing progress. The active communication between us and our customers deepens relations and ensures mutually beneficient cooperation in the future as well. We listen to our customers and plan our research and development accordingly. However, technological progress alone is not enough to ascertain our position as a leading company. Caring for people as well as for the machinery is of equal importance. We believe that our personnel is our foremost asset. In order to provide customers with the best, our personnel must feel good, be motivated, and realize that the customer's advantage is ours as well. We are committed to the training and education of our employees, as well as to their physical and mental well-being. Language courses are available for all, and as data processing rapidly develops, we have decided to take the lead in using new technology. Elematic's recreational team deserves our cheers for constantly coming up with new and fun ideas, inspiring us to exercise and refresh our minds and bodies outside of work. Joining the Investors in People Standard in 1997 provided us with a flexible framework to develop strategies for improvement, to implement these strategies, and to evaluate the impact of the improvements on the organization. The assumption is that skilled and motivated people work harder and improve productivity. Investors in People also help employees to become more customer-focused, enabling the whole company to more effectively meet customer needs and to perceive even the weak signals of the market. Caring is a comprehensive philosophy that colors all our activities. We aim at designing inventions to suit all sizes of enterprises, whether small with a couple of beds or large, multi-plant combinations. To improve the working environment of factories, we have created machines that are silent, user-friendly, and easy to maintain, recycling systems, efficient bed cleaners, and many other solutions to minimize the amount of dirt, dust, and noise. We also do our best to take care of our customers long after a deal is concluded. One example of this is preventive maintenance, which we are constantly expanding. Our Customer Service people are committed to keeping customer's plants up and running smoothly without interruptions, a task that keeps them on the go. You can join CS on a tour of preventive maintenance in an article later in this issue. On behalf of myself and the Elematic personnel, I wish you all a Prosperous New Year 2006. Let us name it the Year of Concrete Caring. Eero Virtanen Director, Finance and Administration
