Precast causes low environmental burden
The most efficient way of producing sandwich wall elements is in a controlled factory environment. The advantage of controlled concrete production in enclosed factories becomes apparent as each part of the process can be easily monitored and controlled due to the operations being repetitive, plus being performed at one location. Precast production is one way to reduce the total amount of waste and the recycling of waste can be organized more effectively. The factory environment also leads to efficient energy utilization, in other words, the heat resulting from the production process is also utilized in the heating of the building. As a result of industrial production, the environmental burden caused by the manufacture of precast concrete elements is reasonably low when compared to producing the entire building on-site.
Caring for customers' varying circumstances

An entire series of walls with one mold
Precast company Betoniluoma Oy in Finland has been producing concrete products since 1953. The company has recently acquired a brand new circulation line from Elematic for the production of sandwich wall elements. Says Mr. Raimo Luoma, Managing Director of Betoniluoma: "We are enormously satisfied with the many advantages the circulation line brings to our production. One of the major benefits is that we can make entire series of wall elements with one mold and so minimize mold costs! If and when we want to change the product we are making, also this can be done with ease." According to Mr. Luoma, another important achievement with the new line is that workers can stop running around the factory for parts and materials. Now it is the molds that circulate and the workers remain put at their own point along the line. The work becomes much more efficient and an additional bonus is that the factory stays cleaner and so also considerably safer and more pleasant.
Energy saving and friendly to residents
"We are developing an entirely new product, a series of sandwich wall houses that are energy saving and friendly to live in. At the Vaasa Housing Fair on the west coast of Finland this summer, one of these new houses was on display and raised overwhelming interest in the public", says Mr. Luoma. Our other contribution to the fair was a beautiful sandwich façade apartment building by the sea with a white exposed-aggregate finish. "We emphasize that the sandwich wall elements of these houses have been produced in factory conditions under strict control and this ensures top quality. When building cast-in-situ, it is close to impossible to achieve the same level of quality as in precast production."
