Let's make it happen
Anyone who has traveled to the Far East can appreciate the need for affordable housing. In India alone, the current requirement is for around 24.7 million units – and this figure is growing.
Given this reality, points out Ari Mellanen, Export Manager, Elematic Sales, “the only way to produce so many housing units is by mechanizing construction and introducing precast concrete.” Mellanen has lived in different parts of the Far East for 13 years.
In Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, reports Mellanen, precast is widely used in
housing and “bringing in new precast technology is backed by the government in
those countries.” In the Philippines and Vietnam, precast is still in the
early development stages.
Korea is also an active market, again. After 10 years that saw Elematic involved
in the building of 11 factories (for housing construction, Inchon International
Airport and high-speed railway projects), “we are back with one new factory
and soon renovating the old, existing ones,” smiles Mellanen. “The new
factory is for pre-stressed flooring products, something new in Korea.”
So, precast is the way to go!
